Design by Phoniska is an interior design studio and showroom led by designer Hema Damani, working between London and Kampala on residential and boutique commercial projects.

Hema’s design perspective has been shaped by extensive travel and a deep appreciation for global architecture and craftsmanship. From the architectural heritage of Central Asia to the refined material traditions of Japan, the soaring spires of medieval Europe and the intricate carvings of India and the Middle East, these influences inform a design approach that values texture, craftsmanship and the quiet power of carefully chosen materials.

Over time, she has developed a trusted international network of artisans, suppliers and manufacturers, allowing the studio to source distinctive furniture, lighting and decorative elements that bring individuality and depth to every project. This process of discovery and careful curation forms an essential part of the studio’s work.

With a strong focus on space planning, detail and materiality, each project begins with a thoughtful understanding of the client, the architecture and how a space will ultimately be experienced. Interiors are then developed through the thoughtful layering of materials and finishes that serve both aesthetic and practical purposes, creating spaces that feel harmonious, functional and rich in character.
